The Baishakhi Mela Parade
23rd May 2010
EEA was commissioned by Tower Hamlets Council to design, direct and manage the procession which involved over 400 artists through workshops and the parade. EEA collaborated with Bangladeshi artists and arts organisations including Tamarind Theatre Company, Bisho Shahito Kendro, Taal Toronga, River Cultures and NASHA as well as national and local cultural organisations and schools. The parade included EEA’s signature mechanical creatures of the air, earth and sea and depictions of harvest time in Bangladesh with choirs, dancers and street performers.
Starting from Bishops Square in Spitalfields, the procession zig zagged down Brick Lane to Weaver’s Fields where there was a festival of music, food and activities celebrating Bangladeshi culture.
