Trashcatchers Carnival

4th July 2010

Green giant with fruit

EEA collaborated with Project Phakama and Transition Town Tooting to produce the giant Trashcatchers Carnival on Sunday 4th July 2010.  Led by artists from EEA and Project Phakama the local community of South West Tooting explored our relationship with the earth, using recycling as a metaphor for change through designing, making and animating beautiful sculptures and costumes from discarded rubbish and trash!  The carnival took the form of a peaceful rally where local people stopped the traffic for an hour while they paraded to the local park ending in a large-scale community celebration where EEA’s Mechanical Menagerie and Giants featured throughout the day.

A Symposium – “How do societies learn?” was held on Monday 5th July, facilitated by Dr Barbara Heinzen and Anna Ledgard providing a space to reflect and to bring together what has been learnt through the event.
